Wind data methodology
Time to Ride brings live observations and forecast information together so riders can make a faster, better-informed decision before going to the water.
Live observations
Observed wind and temperature come from physical weather stations. Most active feeds normally update about every ten minutes, although station, network or provider delays can occur. The update time shown on each dashboard is part of the reading and should always be checked.
Valencia calculation
The Valencia view combines readings from three port sensors and adjusts the result according to wind direction. This is intended to provide a more useful local estimate than presenting a single sensor without context.
Forecasts and swell
Wind forecast information is based on WindGuru models. Swell information is sourced from Surfline where available. Forecast cards summarize useful windows, while the charts retain the broader relationship between predicted and observed conditions.
Limits and safety
Weather stations can fail, forecasts can be wrong and local conditions can change quickly. Time to Ride is guidance, not an official warning service or a substitute for local knowledge, current restrictions and the rider's own safety assessment.
